Printing Using the IPP Port on Windows XP / 2000

This page explains how to configure the settings to print using standard Windows printing.
How to print using IPP port on Windows XP / 2000 is explained below.


  • When standard Windows printing is used, it is impossible to get printer status using the status monitor software that came with the printer or MFP.
    Also, if the printer supports bi-directional printing only, standard Windows printing cannot be used.
  • When using standard Windows printing, up to 4 printers can be used at a time. To connect 5 or more printers, SX Virtual Link must be used.
  • It is impossible to print to printers or MFPs connected to other computers via SX Virtual Link.
    Also, when printers or MFPs are busy with standard Windows printing, they cannot be connected via SX Virtual Link.
  • In this page, sample screens captured from Windows XP are used. If you use Windows 2000, these screens will differ.

Click Start - Control Panel - Printers and Other Hardware - Add a printer.
The wizard for adding a printer appears. Click Next.

  • If you are using Windows 2000, click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Printers and double-click Add a Printer.

Select a type of the printer that you wish to configure. 
Select A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer and click Next.

  • In Windows 2000, click A network printer.

Enter the IP address of DS-510.

<Windows XP>
Select Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network and enter the IPP destination URL of DS-510 that is displayed in the Web page to URL.
Click Next.

Example) - If the URL is abc.com :http://abc.com/ipp/lp_u1
Example) - If the IP address is 192.168.20.123 :http://192.168.20.123/ipp/lp_u1

<Windows 2000>
Select Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your intranet and enter the IPP destination URL of DS-510 that is displayed in the Web page to URL.
Click Next.

Example) - If the URL is abc.com :http://abc.com/ipp/lp_u1
Example) - If the IP address is 192.168.20.123 :http://192.168.20.123/ipp/lp_u1

Select a printer driver.
Select the printer driver you want to use and click OK.


Select whether to set this printer as a default printer and click Next.


The configuration is complete. Click Finish.
