Hardware Application Engineer

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is as a Application Engineer  in support of our customers.  You will support customers by reviewing their schematics & PCB layouts, answering questions about the various radio designs, specifications and implementation, working with sales and Field Application Engineers to resolve customer issues, test customer platforms which use our embedded radios, support our Japan corporate engineering team as needed, design HW platforms for evaluation use and perform some mechanical engineering duties as well.  You will also support customers with obtaining worldwide certifications of our radios and also customer product certifications.  This includes determining how best to obtain certifications, obtaining certification quotations from certified laboratories, obtaining equipment and setting up test platforms, writing test procedures, monitoring the lab testing, reviewing test reports and keeping track of the status of the various certifications.

Hardware Design:

  • Develop design specification and schedule
  • Design schematic and obtain support tools
  • Oversee PCB design
  • Work with Software Engineers to implement required functions
  • Test and debug design
  • Document design

Certification Support:

  • Determine what tests are needed for certification in a given country
  • Obtain quotes from a certified laboratory
  • Prepare Statement Of Work and Project Cost Estimate
  • Prepare test setup and test procedure
  • Supply documents needed for certification
  • Keep track of projects in various stages of certification

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or other technical field.
  • Schematic Capture and PCB Viewer experience
  • Knowledge of wireless 802.11, Bluetooth and networking protocols
  • Knowledge of Signal Integrity and Antenna Theory
  • Good communication, skills with the ability to develop detailed requirements from vague or ambiguous inputs.
  • Good writing skills to communicate technical information and blogs
  • Familiar with Windows and Linux
  • Schedule focused mindset with on-time completion of deliverables
  • Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Soldering skills
  • Ability to complete projects from start to finish
  • Some domestic travel required
  • Occasional overnight travel as required to support the customer
