Enables Plug-n-Play Wi-Fi for the NXP i.MX RT Crossover Processors with the SX-SDMAC

i.MX RT Series: Crossover Processor

As the need for smarter and more ‘aware’ edge computing grows and becomes critical to the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), edge devices are expected to provide the highest compute performance together with reliable security and assured privacy at the lowest cost possible. NXP’s i.MX RT series tackles this challenge by architecting i.MX RT crossover processors to deliver high performance and functional capabilities of applications processors, but with the ease-of-use and real-time deterministic operation of traditional microcontrollers (MCUs).

i.MX RT Target Applications

  • General Embedded designs for mass-market applications such as metering, medical equipment, and IoT gateways.
  • Human-Machine Interface (HMI) graphics capabilities for home and building automation, industrial computing designs, and consumer products.
  • Audio Subsystem designs for high-end, multi-channel, “whole home” audio devices, smart speakers, and specialty equipment such as guitar pedals, mixers, and monitors.
  • Motor Control and Power Conversion for professional appliances such as 3D printers, thermal printers, and drones—as well as consumer products, such as robotic vacuum cleaners.

Silex Turnkey Wi-Fi Solutions for NXP i.MX RT Processors

Traditionally, MCUs have been confined to low-performance edge nodes and therefore paired up with low throughput 802.11n, whereas applications processors with their higher performance and functionality have been paired with higher throughput 802.11ac. However, with the launch of NXP’s breakthrough i.MX RT Crossover Processors, the performance and functionality limitations of MCUs has been broken and the edge nodes are now able to take on a much bigger role in the IoT; thereby also requiring a wide range of Wi-Fi options.

To address this growing need, Silex has created a set of turnkey Wi-Fi solutions for i.MX RT processors with pre-integrated software drivers, module pre-certification, and world-class support.
