Silex Unwired

Silex Technology Recognized by Wi-Fi Alliance® For Helping Wi-Fi 6E Gain Global Momentum

Since its 2021 introduction, Wi-Fi 6E has delivered value by satisfying growing demand for higher-bandwidth services. Wi-Fi Alliance® recently highlighted members, Silex Technology, Qualcomm Technologies, and Intel in a recent press release  for demonstrating readiness with product availability that is helping to support industry momentum with large-scale deployments in healthcare, education, and sports and entertainment environments.

“The transition from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E has been happening at a very rapid pace. There has been a transformational change in consumer behavior, due to the recent pandemic and increasing number of Wi-Fi devices being added to networks, where customers now are looking for the best connectivity experiences,” said Keith Sugawara, President, Silex Technology America. “Furthermore, rapid global regulatory approvals of the 6 GHz spectrum, including recently Japan, Kenya, Bahrain, and New Zealand, are helping to meet its demand. With the Silex product portfolio of Wi-Fi 6E connectivity products, OEMs are well positioned to use Wi-Fi in this greenfield spectrum.”

Trailblazing a vast landscape of applications

The diverse Wi-Fi 6E ecosystem is quickly growing and has more than 660 Wi-Fi CERTIFIED devices by Wi-Fi Alliance. These include a variety of smart TVs, smart phones, enterprise and residential access points (APs), and laptops. Nearly every application where a user experience is driven by either audio, video, or latency sensitive usage will benefit most from this technology, making the impact of Wi-Fi 6E far reaching for users, enterprises, and service providers. Silex Technology recently held an interview with Shravan Surenini, Director of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, on the impact of Wi-Fi 6E, discussing its adoption, application, and benefits in a video series you can watch, here

Silex helps customer future-proof their products and overcome semiconductor supply chain issues

Earlier this year, Silex released the industry’s first Wi-Fi 6E tri-band module. It quickly garnered interest from customers looking to increase overall capacity and performance, as well as future-proof their networks and devices.

Silex customer, Phoenix Contact, approached us with supply chain issues in the semiconductor industry. Backlogged components and a future end-of-life product scenario were going to limit their ability to meet their customer needs. Phoenix Contact made the swift decision to incorporate Wi-Fi 6E, choosing the SX-PCEAX Wi-Fi module for their next-generation AP and client devices. This eased the supply chain and end-of-life problems, while also future-proofing their products by enhancing the speed and reliability of their devices, doubled the bandwidth, and gained access to unique features of Wi-Fi 6, such as Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDCMA) and Target Wake Time (TWT).

"It's common to find a mix of legacy clients operating on the Wi-Fi network, making the network sub-optimal. Legacy clients are inefficient, and the overhead needed to maintain backward compatibility contributes to the further efficiency losses. Wi-Fi 6E does not only make new products future-proof, it also does away with the complexities of the past by limiting access to Wi-Fi 6 and newer protocols in the 6 GHz band. Coupling the Wi-Fi 6 protocol with Wi-Fi 6E spectrum allows Wi-Fi 6 abilities to shine in a greenfield installation."

The SX-PCEAX from Silex is the industry’s first tri-band Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 PCle module. It extends the benefits of Wi-Fi 6 in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands to the 6 GHz and increases overall capacity and performance. It’s modular certified for North America, Canada, Europe, and Japan, which benefits customers that ship products worldwide. You can learn more about this next generation product by downloading the specifications sheet, or reach out to us at bhashim@silexamerica.com to discuss upcoming modules in the product roadmap.
