Dräger’s Atlan Anesthesia Machines now offer seamless wireless connectivity, thanks to the Silex BR-500AC Ethernet-to-Wi-Fi Bridge. This collaboration between Dräger and Silex brings secure and flexible wireless communication to modern operating rooms, improving mobility while maintaining the security and reliability required in regulated medical environments.
Meeting the Demands of Modern Healthcare Environments
As healthcare facilities evolve, the need for greater flexibility in acute care environments has grown. Atlan anesthesia machines, which were initially designed for wired Ethernet connections, faced limitations in adapting to the dynamic and mobile needs of operating rooms.
To stay competitive and meet customer needs, Dräger sought to integrate wireless capabilities without redesigning their machines or compromising on security. The challenge: how to enable wireless connectivity while adhering to enterprise-grade security standards in a strictly regulated medical environment.
Decoupling Wi-Fi Development from the Medical Device
Dräger partnered with Silex Technology to implement the BR-500AC Ethernet-to-Wi-Fi Bridge, which met all the necessary requirements for secure wireless communication. By using the BR-500AC, Dräger was able to decouple the Wi-Fi interface development from the Atlan machines themselves, allowing for faster implementation, easier lifecycle management, and more efficient scaling across other devices.
Key features of the BR-500AC:
Enterprise-grade security, supporting 802.1X authentication and WPA3-Enterprise encryption.
Compact design that easily integrates into existing hospital networks.
Scalability to support multiple devices across the hospital’s infrastructure.
Proven Success in a German Hospital Deployment
The BR-500AC solution was successfully deployed in a German hospital, where it enabled Dräger’s Atlan anesthesia machines to operate wirelessly within the existing IT infrastructure. This seamless integration resulted in increased workflow efficiency for clinical staff and eliminated the need for physical Ethernet cabling in the operating room.
The solution met Dräger’s strict requirements, maintaining network security while providing mobility and flexibility for their anesthesia machines.
Reliable and Secure Wireless Connectivity for Critical Environments
The BR-500AC Ethernet-to-Wi-Fi Bridge connects Ethernet-based devices to Wi-Fi networks, delivering secure, efficient, and reliable wireless connectivity in regulated environments.
Supports 802.11ac Wave 2 and 2x2 MU-MIMO technology for improved performance.
WPA3-Enterprise security ensures that sensitive data remains protected.
Compact and versatile, it can be powered using a standard power cable or an optional Y-shaped USB power cable.
With this wireless network enablement initiative, we wanted to answer our customers’ need for adaptability to their existing network infrastructure without compromising on security. The Silex BR‑500AC has proven to be the perfect missing link. It allows us to offer the Atlan anesthesia machine family with the wireless capabilities our customers expect, ensuring that our technology adapts to the hospital environment, not the other way around.
