Silex Unwired

Add Bluetooth 5.0 Support for SX-SDMAC and SX-SDPAC Product Family

Bluetooth 5.0 has been in the market for some time now. With its increased adoption and customer requests we have added Bluetooth 5.0 support to our SDIO 11ac Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Combo module family. Access to BT 5.0 functionality is available through a simple firmware update. In addition Silex has added to the SX-SDMAC family a new BT SIG QDID.

Our modules now support Bluetooth 5.0 from firmware perspective, providing compatibility with other BT 5.0 devices. Note that to take your end product to market you may need to recertify your device with the BT SIG depending upon the implementation of your product.

  • New Customers can request evaluation software via our website that supports BT 5.0.
  • For existing customers who need to add BT 5.0 functionality to their device, patch files are available. Please contact your technical support contact and they will enable access to the firmware and instructions.

In addition to adding BT 5.0, Silex has addressed a reported security vulnerability in Bluetooth implementations. Bluetooth firmware or operating system software drivers may not sufficiently validate elliptic curve parameters used to generate public keys during a Diffie-Hellman key exchange, which may allow a remote attacker to obtain the encryption key used by the device. This issue too is resolved in our latest update. More information on the issue can be found at: https://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/304725/

Please contact our sales team at sales@silexamerica.com if you would like to request the firmware patch files or have any other questions on our BT5.0 enablement.
